Venturing out seemingly for good from behind aliases h. hAMMOK and Piam, it is Fitz Ellarald first release for NN Records operates at interstices of glitch electronica, dub and musique concrète. The noir theme alluded to in titles “Newclear Age” and “Pare-down” is the most interesting part of the venture. Pleasure is to be found less in such hackneyed ambiences than in the music’s pollarded forms and the detail of its numerous small incidents — echoes and hazy cymbal splashes shimmer in frothy seas replete with insistent, slippery rhythms, tentative electric piano and muscular bass drum.

As on Fitz Ellarald second album two years later, "Inlay G”, a strong animist current runs via each piece. Using customised programmes, Fitz effaces the distances separating sounds from their sources. The result is an enigmatic series of brief understatements: a sequence of tiny accidents and mutations that occur so rapidly you may not even be aware that any change has taken place at all. Moment of hiatus ebb and flow on “Pare-down“, while events topple and collapse onto each other throughout “Rancaldom” or divide and multiply during to parts of “Rondeau“ album starter.
